New operators secure future of the Regensburg-Trento Rolling Road

After the withdrawal of Ökombi: Italian-German cooperation try their luck with the transalpine Rolling Road

The Rolling Road (RoLa) from the bayernhafen Regensburg across the Brenner Pass to Trento remains in operation. After the previous operator Ökombi withdrawed from the operation, bayernhafen managed, through teamwork with the operator of the terminal in Trento, Interbrennero, Trenitalia, the company Trasposervizi and the private German rail transport company Lokomotion, to secure the future of the Rolling Road. With immediate effect the train is carrying trucks over the Brenner Pass on a daily basis again.

The Rolling Road has carried 27,433 trucks in 2011 from the bayernhafen Regensburg on the railway across the Brenner Pass. In early December 2012 the previous operator Ökombi withdrew from this business. The transalpine Rolling Road is now available again. Trenitalia, a 100% company of the railway enterprise Ferrovie dello Stato, organises the train and drives its from Trento to the Brenner Pass, from where the Deutsche Bahn drives it to the bayernhafen Regensburg, through the commissioned sub-enterprise ‘Lokomotion Gesellschaft für Schienentraktion mbH’.

Trasposervizi sells the Rolling Road service to forwarding enterprises. The two terminal operators Interbrennero in Trento and bayernhafen in Regensburg are also aboard. In the future the Rolling Road can also be booked via bayernhafen. The commitment of this team allows to transport more than 20,000 trucks per year on the railway, instead of on the road also in future.

“The tranalpine Rolling Road is an important contribution to shifting transport from road to rail,“ says Joachim Zimmermann, managing director bayernhafen group. “Therefore we made every effort with our Italian and German partners to continue the Rolling Road as gapless as possible.“
