Stable cargo volumes in 2011 at Port of Vienna

Port of Vienna presents children’s book “Rocos Hafenwelt“ and registers increase in car throughput 2011:

The 2011 financial year was a good one for the Port of Vienna. Managing Director Rudolf Mutz expects stable cargo volumes in spite of the low water in autumn. “We will continue the total volume of 2010“, the manager says to the Austrian transport magazine Österreichische Verkehrszeitung at the event of the presentation of “Rocos Hafenwelt“, the first book for children issued by the Port of Vienna group.

In 2010 about 5 million tons of cargo passed the facilities of the Port of Vienna group. What accounted significantly to maintain this value throughout 2011 were increases in the segments container and automotive. The WienCont container terminal at Freudenau port achieved a 20 per cent-increase in cotnainer volume to more than 400,000 TEU. Automotive throughput grew about ten per cent year-on-year to 70,000 units.

The children’s book “Rocos Hafenwelt“ is aimed to explain the activities in the port to children in kindergarten and primary school. In ten short stories Roco, the port rat, tells his experiences in the port of Vienna. Based on these stories the concept of “logistics” is explained in a way children can understand.
