Start of Newark service and more US-flights with Austrian Airlines

Resumption of flights from Vienna to Chicago pays for Austrian Airlines; the Washington flight will be operated with a Boeing 777 from July

The summer 2014 flight schedule represents a massive expansion of the Austrian Airlines flight offering to North America: Starting on July 2, 2014, the airline will launch direct flights to a new destination, namely Newark. In addition to the daily flights to Chicago, Austrian Airlines is also expanding its offering to Washington: Starting on July 1, 2014, Austrian Airlines will operate a Boeing 777 instead of Boeing 767 on its daily flights to Washington, which represents additional seats as well as expanded airfreight capacity per flight. The existing daily flights on a Boeing 767 from Vienna into Toronto, Canada will remain unchanged.

One year ago, on May 17, 2013, Austrian Airlines resumed its non-stop flight service from Vienna to Chicago as part of its long-haul offering. Since then, the route has turned into a major success: Due to the strong demand in the first year, Austrian Airlines has expanded the number of flights into Chicago, and now flies directly from Vienna to Chicago on a daily basis instead of five times per week.

Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, and Austria’s largest carrier operating a global route network of round 130 destinations. That route network is particularly dense in Central and Eastern Europe with 41 destinations. The flight operations of the Austrian Airlines Group has been bundled at its 100% subsidiary Tyrolean Airways since 1st July, 2012.
