Start signal for project „High and Heavy Ennshafen Lower Austria“

Ennshafen port in lower Austria about to become a junction for throughput of heavy cargo on river ships

The Ennshafen port in Lower Austria is to be upgraded to a junction for shifting heavy goods to river ships. “The combined transport solutions such as side tracks, quay facilities and roll on-roll off ramp will be completed with additional infrastructure for efficient loading and unloading of heavy goods to river ships in the frame of High & Heavy.

Thus available capacities on the Danube for heavy lift project business will be better used, which will also take off weight of the roads by means of multimodal concepts“, says Upper Austrian State Minister for Economic Affairs Dr. Petra Bohuslav during her visit at the „transport logistic 2011“ fair in Munich.

The Logistik Cluster Niederösterreich accompanies the project, in the course of which an economic analysis of the potential and the location, as well as a holistic concept are developed. “Until the end of June 2012 the result shall be available and serve as the basis for decisions for the industry, service suppliers, operators and investors (infrastructure crane facilities, etc.). Lower Austria and ecoplus, the economic agency of the Land, were actively involved in the development of the strategy.

ecoplus and the Ennshafen port therefore submitted the project „High and Heavy Ennshafen Niederösterreich“ at the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). “Ennshafen is internationally known as a logistics hub. Its cooperations with the Black Sea port Galatz and the German northern sea port Hamburg as well as connections to more European ports and the future focus on High & Heavy transport will improve the transport offering and contribute to a shift of cargo traffic from road to rail and waterway“, Bohuslav emphasised in Munich.
