NAPA-ports handle around 100 million tonnes of cargo per year

NAPA presents itself as a bridge between Europe and Asia at this year’s Transport & Logistics Fair in Munich

NAPA (North Adriatic Ports Association) recommends of itself as a bridge between Europe and Asia at the "transport logistik 2011"-fair in Munich. In addition to Koper (Slovenia) and Rijeka (Croatia) the Italian ports Ravenna, Venice and Trieste are members of the association.

The NAPA members handle about 100 million tonnes of cargo per year. Only a collaboration of the North Adriatic ports, their advantageous geo-strategic location and connections to the hinterland markets can attract critical quantities of cargo to the Adriatic Sea. Giuseppe Parrello, President of Ravenna Port Authority, pointed out the time and cost advantages provided by the Adriatic transport route for cargo from the Far East and Eastern Mediterranean. Igor Jakomin, State Secretary at the Slovene Ministry of Transport, commented: “In addition to a shorter route, I would like to point out the environmental benefits, due to the fact that it guarantees lower fuel consumption and consequently lower CO2 emissions, which is the most sustainable long-term solution.«

At the fair in Munich, the representatives of the NAPA ports and the Port Association of the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommen signed a cooperation agreement concerning the transport links between the North Adriatic and the Baltic Sea. Luka Koper signed also a cooperation agreement between with the Port Authority of Thailand.
