Steiermarkbahn GmbH takes over new Taurus from Siemens

Siemens multi system locomotive to be deployed in cross-border operations with Steiermarkbahn Transport und Logistik GmbH

Steiermarkbahn GmbH took over a new multi system locomotive at the Terminal Graz Süd on 28 June 2012. The electronic locomotive of the 1216 series (ES 64U4 Eurosprinter or „Taurus“) is fabricated by the rail car manufacturer Siemens. The Eurosprinter locomotive is designed for cross-border operation of passenger and cargo traffic. It is to be used in Austria, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovenia. Licence for Slovakia is expected to follow shortly. As for the implementation of the transportations Steiermarkbahn cooperates with Austrian and international partners. The reason for this vehicle-investment was the rising amount of transport tasks, as the enterprise states.

The Austrian railway company Steiermarkbahn Transport und Logistik GmbH, a 100 %-subsidiary of Steiermärkische Landesbahnen, has been operating in the market of railway services since 2002. The enterprise is mainly dealing with the provision of rail cargo transport services. In addition to block train business, Steiermarkbahn is also active in the fields of logistics for construction sites and railway sidings.
