Swift conclusion of collective bargaining for the transport industry

2 per cent wage increase and improvements to the legal framework of Austrian truck drivers; Advanced training to be paid by employers

Plus 2 per cent wage increase, including legal framework improvements such as paid training periods were the results of the social partners’ agreements for the approximately 60,000 truck drivers with the conclusion of the collective agreement (KV) for the employees of the freight transport sector. All allowances and the apprentice wage is also to be increased by 2 per cent. The collective agreement shall apply from 1 January 2015; and will be valid for 12 months.

Moreover, seasonal interruptions of up to three months will be counted as valid employment contract in the coming year. „This is a benefit for employees e.g. with salary increases or the crediting of periods of service for a sixth week of vacation“, explains Karl Delfs, Professional Secretary for the road division of the vida labour union.

In addition, framework improvements in the collective agreements for employees in the freight transport industry could be obtained. In future the time for the training will be compensated by employers. The time for the „C95“ driver training prescribed by the EU will be paid to the employees in the amount of the basic salary (actual hourly wage) by employers.

The negotiators “Gewerkschaft vida” and the “Fachverband für das Güterbeförderungsgewerbe“ (trade association for the commercial carriage of goods) were able to find an agreement in the first round of negotiations. This had been possible, since the round of negotiations, according to Karl Delfs, had been preceeded by very constructive meetings in the context of a joint working group and so many things have been clarified in advance.
