TCBuen is open for business

The Buenaventura Container Terminal (TCBuen) in Colombia has officially launched operations, receiving its first ship – Maersk’s Rio Verde – on January 27th.

Operated by Spanish port terminal operator Grup TCB, the new container terminal is an alternative for freight forwarding in the area and will enable customers to optimise import and export processes in order to create significant synergies in operations and its related costs.

Located midway between North America and South America near the Panama Canal, Buenaventura is the closest port to the Far East.

TCBuen’s capacity of 260,000 TEU increases the total capacity of the Buenaventura port by 30%.  Demand on the port is expected to increase with the Panama Canal expansion project.

Grup TCB operates thirteen port terminals and four rail terminals worldwide, handling more than 3.3 million TEU per year. The group is currently implementing an ambitious international expansion program that will allow it to develop new projects and add new terminals to its portfolio.
