Tesco and Carrefour form alliance

Food retailers Tesco and Carrefour are to enter into a long-term strategic alliance which covers the strategic relationship with suppliers, joint purchasing of own brand products and goods not for resale via a three-year operational framework to improve competitiveness.

The alliance aims to support both companies in improving the quality and choice of products available whilst minimising product costs.

“By working together and making the most of our collective product expertise and sourcing capability, we will be able to serve our customers even better, further improving choice, quality and value,” said Tesco Group chief executive Dave Lewis.

The agreement will enable both companies to strengthen supplier relationships as they continue to work with supplier partners at a local and national level.

This strategic alliance “combines the purchasing expertise of two world leaders, complementary in their geographies, with common strategies,” said Carrefour Group chairman and CEO Alexandre Bompard. “This agreement is a great opportunity to develop our two brands at the service of our customers.”

The alliance will be formally agreed in the next couple of months.
