TNT Post UK invests in workforce, facilities and technology

TNT Post UK’s 2010 investment program is on track to see the UK’s largest private mail operator expand its workforce, increase its regional presence and invest significantly in its operations by the end of the year.

This year, the company will expand increase its workforce by 20%  –  an expansion that will take TNT Post’s staff to more than 1,000 employees across the UK. The company will introduce new roles across the business – from client managers to administrative and operational staff in the postal depots, and new roles will also be created across TNT Post’s national van fleet, which is to be centralised to provide flexibility of coverage across the country.

TNT Post is also investing more than £3 million this year in sorting and processing machinery, customer relationship management and new facilities.

These investments build on the company’s growth since it began operations in the UK in 2004, from handling 300 million items in its first full year to more than 2.66 billion items in 2009. The company expects to handle more than 3 billion items this year.

During this time, TNT Post has opened a network of five regional offices covering Scotland, the North, the Midlands, London and the South East and the South West.

Building on the existing five regional offices and six depots, TNT Post is on the hunt for a central distribution hub, to help improve operational efficiency and further increase its capacity. This hub will handle billions of items a year.

In addition the company is looking to expand its Iver, Buckinghamshire, depot by 40,000 sq.ft later this year.

Further boosting regional coverage, TNT Post will open a new hub in Northern Ireland this autumn, following trials of its service over the last six months.

According to the latest Postcomm Business Customer Survey, TNT Post continues to be Royal Mail’s leading competitor, with a 39% overall awareness of its services by business customers, compared to its nearest rival DHL (18%).

The survey also revealed that TNT Post has the highest level of recognition amongst alternative mail services providers in key sectors, including financial services (54%), trade (37%) education and health (32%) and industry (29%).
