TX Logistik hires locomotives from SBB Cargo

TX Logistik cargo railway hires up to 12 Re421 locomotives from SBB Cargo for German domestic transport

SBB Cargo and TX Logistik have signed a multi-annual agreement for hiring up to twelve Re421 locomotives. TX Logistik will use them for customer transport within Germany. The contract has a value of several million CHF per year for the next five years. “This contract allows reliable handling of customer transportations between north and south Germany“, says Karl Michael Mohnsen, CEO TX Logistik.

TX Logistik will gradually take over up to twelve Re421 this and next year. A full-service package is a key component of the agreement. The service package covers maintenance and provision of replacement locomotives if required, thus ensuring circulation of TX Logistik during the required periods. Moreover SBB Cargo supports the Re421-training and qualification of up to 100 TX Logistik locomotive drivers.

TX Logistik was established in 1999 as a private railway enterprise and has today a European network covering nine countries ranging from Scandinavia to Italy. Their focus lies on transport on the north-south corridor crossing the Alps. With about 350 employees, including about 120 locomotive drivers and shunting staff, the enterprise generated annual turnover of EUR 200 million in 2011. Since March 2011 TX Logistik has been wholly owned by Trenitalia, a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello stato.
