Ukraine considering offers from Nigeria and Senegal to create logistics hub for food supply

Representatives from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine have been discussing opportunities for increased trade cooperation with ministers from Senegal and Nigeria as part of a visit to African countries

Following similar talks with ministers from Senegal, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Mykola Solsky, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Geoffrey Onyeamam, and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic, Mohammad Mahmoud Abubakar, to discuss the potential for ‘cooperation and expansion of trade relations between the countries’.

This included talks about the possibility of a logistics hub for the constant supply of grain and food products to Nigeria.

Solsky is open to these suggestions, saying: “Ukraine is interested in creating such a logistics project and is ready to consider the details”.

After positive talks, Ukraine has agreed to supply 25,000 tonnes of grain to Nigeria, with food delivery ‘planned in the coming months’. This is a part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Grain from Ukraine initiative, which continues to support countries which face food shortages in spite the ongoing conflict with Russia.
