Ultra-fast grocery delivery pioneer snaps up three warehouse

Ultra fast grocery delivery firm Getir has snapped up three warehouses on the six-unit 110,925ft2 Waltham X warehouse scheme developed by Railpen and Wrenbridge in Waltham Cross, London.

This is a departure for the Turkish Q-commerce firm, which only established itself in London this year. Up until now the company has focussed on securing dark stores (effectively shops with no customers, just picker and packers) across the capital and other major conurbations in the UK to fulfil its promise of delivering  groceries to customers within 10 minutes of ordering.

It has a string of dark stores in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Liverpool, Southampton, and Portsmouth

The company has plans to invest around £100 million in the UK in a nationwide network of local dark stores  that will create up to 10,000 new and permanent jobs. All deliveries are made using only electric bikes and mopeds

In only 10 months, Getir has opened 75 dark stores across nine UK cities providing 2,000 jobs and intends to increase this to 10,000 jobs by the end of 2022. Getir will be in at least 15 UK cities by Christmas 2021

Turancan Salur, General Manager for Getir UK said: “Our UK business model is the delivery of groceries from our local stores using a 100% e-vehicle fleet. We are removing the need for millions of miles of petrol and diesel car journeys to be made every year and making our city roads safer, quieter and cleaner – at the same time as giving our customers a service that gives them great products and saves them huge amounts of valuable time.”

Waltham X was completed in June this year. The site benefits from close proximity to major roadways, including the M25, A10 and M11, and is immediately adjacent to Waltham Cross station, which has regular services to Central London.

Jeff Wilson, Director at Wrenbridge added: “Waltham X is a brilliant location for logistics and industrial tenants, as evidenced by Getir taking up such considerable space. With demand for logistics and warehouse space soaring, we expect considerable interest in the remaining units.”

Additionally, Railpen and Wrenbridge have announced further success at their Dartford X development where Leathams has pre-let 30,000 ft2 of the recently completed 185,000ft2, 5 unit scheme. The four remaining Units range from 13,000-75,000ft2.

Waltham X and Dartford X are owned and managed by Railpen, the investment manager for the £35 billion Railways Pension Scheme.

CBRE, Avison Young and Montagu Evans represented Railpen/Wrenbridge.
