US DOJ’s Antitrust division investigates UPS and FedEx

Reuters reports that UPS and FedEx are under investigation by the US Dept of Justice to determine whether or not the package delivery companies indulged in anticompetitive activities.

Following the filing of a lawsuit in August by AFMS Logistics Management, the DOJ is reportedly trying to establish whether UPS and FedEx attempted to prevent clients from using third-party shipping consultants and negotiators to save money.

According to Associated Press, UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg said that the company believes it has a right to decline to do business with third-party negotiators like AFMS.

Although the DOJ has declined to comment, both UPS and FedEx have said that they are aware of the investigation.

Both companies have asked a federal judge to dismiss AFMS’s claims. A hearing is planned for January 31st in Los Angeles.
