VABU urge for fair models of subvention for rail sidings

Cargo volume handled by Austrian operators of rail sidings dropped by 9 per cent in 2012

The operators of rail sidings in Austria are reaffirming their claim for fair legal conditions. Markus Schinko, President of the association of operators of rail sidings VABU confirmed the claim for a quick introduction of a modern regulation of rail sidings at the 3rd “Anschlussbahn-Fachtagung” conference, which took place on October 17 in the new operational centre of the NÖVOG Group, a Lower Austrian transport organisation company, in Laubenbachmühle an der Mariazellerbahn,

In addition, appropriate subvention models for the development and operation of railway sidings are needed, combined with partnership infrastructure and operation agreements, the VABU president stressed in his speech to about 160 conference participants. The operation agreement with Rail Cargo Austria has also been redesigned in recent months and was presented at the conference. The revision of the infrastructure rail siding agreement with the ÖBB’s infrastructure division shall be completed soon. This model contract regulates important parameters of linking infrastructure and railway sidings.

With a total volume of 68 million tonnes of cargo, carried on 1.05 million supplied railcars, the 695 railway sidings in Austria accounted for about 60 per cent of the total volume transported by rail in 2012. Compared to 2011, this represents a decrease of 9 per cent. The aim of VABU is the rapid induction of a trend towards growth of the volume of goods transported on the Austrian railway sidings.
