Vienna Airport draws a pessimistic outlook for 2012

Decline in cargo figures and more moderate investment program at the Vienna Airport

The Vienna Airport announces a decline in cargo volumes in its current press release. The volume of cargo (including trucking services) handled by the Flughafen Wien AG fell 6.2 per cent year-on-year to 277,784 tons in 2011. Pure air cargo declined 8.9 per cent to 199,809 tons, while trucking rose by 1.7 per cent to 77,976 tons.

The Vienna International Airport has to tighten its belt also regarding operating expenses. The investment programme for the period up to 2015 was cut from EUR 650 million to EUR 590 million. In addition the corporate structure was streamlined; the construction area was reorganised; and measures were introduced to reduce internal operating costs and personnel expenses. For 2012 Flughafen Wien AG is expecting a weak economic environment.
