Wincanton and Chevron push to cut CO2 emissions

Chevron has been working with Wincanton to challenge the current design and specification of its existing petroleum fleet.

This has resulted in a new aerodynamic tanker trailer that aims to reduce CO2 through improved fuel efficiency.

The new Lakeland-manufactured trailer includes aerodynamic design alterations, such as streamlined body panels. The new design also includes some subtle changes to improve safety.

Wincanton has also used its driver-training program to increase fuel efficiency, focusing not only on driving technique but also on monitoring trends and behaviours. This has already delivered significant fuel savings.

The new trailer design, coupled with the use of advanced vehicle telematics, is expected to further improve fuel efficiency by up to 5%.

"The carbon savings we will achieve by introducing these new tankers demonstrates the positive contribution that our industry can make to tackling climate change with a customer partnership approach," said Wincanton’s general manager of fleet engineering, Maurizio Romano.

In March this year, Wincanton extended its contract with Chevron, worth approximately £60 million over three years.
