Kopenhagen Fur appoints Damco as its supply chain management partner in Hong Kong; Whirlpool awards a three-year contract to Norbert Dentressangle.

Fur auction house Kopenhagen Fur has appointed Damco as its supply chain management partner for air and ocean transport to its new cold storage warehouse in Hong Kong.

Kopenhagen Fur sells more than twenty million mink skins per year from its Copenhagen-based headquarters.

The cooperation with Damco is aimed at transferring the point of distribution from Copenhagen to Hong Kong in an effort to facilitate and accommodate an increasing demand for mink skins to customers in China.

The new set-up gives Kopenhagen Fur and its customers access to end-to-end visibility through online tools as an integrated part of the supply chain management solution designed in cooperation with Damco. The objective of the solution is to achieve increased speed to market and improve delivery reliability and customer service through the use of the Hong Kong cold storage warehouse.

Damco will also offer destination services to Kopenhagen Fur customers, including customs clearance, import documentation and delivery to final destination.

Whirlpool (UK) has outsourced the management of its UK national distribution centre to Norbert Dentressangle.

The new three-year contract builds on the existing relationship between Whirlpool and Norbert Dentressangle, which was established in France almost thirty years ago.

Previously operated by Whirlpool itself, Norbert Dentressangle will take over the management of the 250,000 sq.ft national distribution centre at Aylesford in Kent, and will be responsible for the receipt, handling, storage, picking and despatch of almost 400,000 units per year to major multiple and independent electrical retailers throughout the UK.

Containerised product is received by road from Whirlpool’s European manufacturing plants, and Whirlpool will continue to manage the inbound and outbound distribution operations.

Under the contract, Norbert Dentressangle will implement a new warehouse management system offering improved visibility and operational efficiency.

As a result of this and other improvements, it is anticipated that the new operation will occupy a reduced warehouse footprint and, in addition to the Whirlpool operation, Norbert Dentressangle will seek complementary business to take up the spare capacity, representing an additional revenue stream for both parties.

Going forward, Norbert Dentressangle will work with Whirlpool to identify further improvements and initiatives to take cost and complexity out of the supply chain.
