Year of the Dragon

On January 23, 2012 commences the year of the dragon according to the Chinese calendar. The dragon is an auspicious symbol of good fortune, success, and happiness. That is what I wish for the new English language Logistik Express newsletter and all our readers as well. The editorial team goes into the New Year in the spirit of the dragon’s optimism.

Experts have forecasted that China will be flying to new heights on the wings of the dragon, politically and economically. China already plays a significant role in the world economy. China owns government bonds worldwide worth mind boggling USD 3.2 trillion. In addition, Chinese citizens and enterprises own companies valued at approx. USD 94 billion in Asia, USD 43 billion in Europe, USD 30 billion in the USA, USD 62 billion in South America, USD 38 billion in Australia, and worth approx. USD 100 billion in Africa and the Middle East. And Chinese direct investments abroad continue to increase. For example, infrastructure company Maipu Communication Technology (Maipu Tongxun) established a European headquarter in Baar (Switzerland) recently.
Trade between Europe and China has slowed down in the last few months, especially imports, but China is still the most important growth market for European Auto and many other consumer and investment goods.
May you all prosper in the Year of the Dragon!
