GEFCO Austria increases frequency to Central Asia

Expansion of multimodal transport solutions with GEFCO Austria to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan

Responding to the strong economic growth in the target region and the related increasing demand for products from Western Europe, the industrial logistics specialist GEFCO Austria enhances its offering of transport connections to Central Asia. The enterprise offers daily groupage cargo services, full and less than full truck loads from the locations in Vienna, Gleisdorf and Vorchdorf to locations of sister companies in Riga and Vilnius. From there the cargo is daily forwarded on the railway to Kazakhstan, as well as twice weekly to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

Established in March 2011 by GEFCO and the Latvian rail company SRR, the joint venture “EMMA”(Eurasia MultiModal Alliance) accounted considerably to the success of the multimodal transport solutions. “EMMA” operates railway transportations between the Baltic States and Central Asian countries. GEFCO Austria guarantees its customers high quality and adherence to schedules along the complete transport chain.

The main users of the multimodal transport routes to Central Asia are companies of the Austrian building material industry, as well as a growing number of small and medium enterprises. “In the countries of Central Asia we see a market with big potential for our Austrian customers – and hence our transport solutions. The economic perspectives of these countries are promising, with the benefit of rich raw material resources in this region and the resulting economic growth“, says Thomas Ziegler, managing director GEFCO Austria.
