ZV president urges for solution of the VC 4200 issue

Wolfram Senger-Weiss aims to solve the problem with liability of Austrian customs agents arising from frauds in the VC 4200

The status of indirect vice representatives in the VC 4200 (customs clearance and delivery within the European Union) is still obstacle to Austria’s forwarding companies. In his welcome speech on the occasion of the first Day of Foreign Trade last week in Linz, Wolfram Senger-Weiss, president of the Austrian forwarding association Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik (ZV), has put an emphasis on this. The event organised by ZV together with the Johannes Kepler University Linz, the Federal Ministry of Finance and the European Commission was attended by about 160 guests.

In his statements Mr. Senger-Weiss explained the enormous competitive advantage of forwarding companies in neighbouring countries compared with Austrian customs agencies regarding direct and indirect representation and hence the associated liability. He sees a need for more cooperation of politics and economy to create an environment that allows Austrian companies to compete with foreign providers. His idea was to negotiate, analyse and solve all requirements under the aspect of the economic region.

This claim is driven by the strong demand for logistics services with companies and households. “Austria’s forwarders are trying to do their entrepreneurial homework to increase their service quality to the best possible extent. This has become visible through modern terminals and vehicle fleets, and most of all in permanent trainings for dispatchers, drivers and eventually all parties involved in the value added chain", says Senger-Weiss. The next thing to do is to tackle the problems with VC 4200 in cooperation with politics.
