ZV steps into the breach for Austria’s customs forwarders

„Logistics package for Austria“ of the Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik targets added value instead of transit for the domestic economic location

As a junction between humans, goods and companies, logistics needs competitive (economic) conditions. Therefore the forwarding association Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik (Vienna) has elaborated a „logistics package for Austria“. This was presented to the public by Mag. Wolfram Senger-Weiss (CEO Gebrüder Weiss GmbH, President Zentralverband Spedition und Logistik), Mag. Siegfried Menz (CEO Ottakringer Getränke AG, chairman of the industrial division of the Austrian Economic Chamber) and Andreas Hofbauer (managing director NÖM-Frischlogistik) on 16 July.

The logistics package for Austria comprises 12 concrete measures to improve the competitiveness of Austria as a location for logistics and industry, „so our country won’t become a country of transit, but remains attractive for enterprises to settle down, which means secure jobs and added value in our country“, as they emphasise in a press conference.

In addition to other measures they also proposed to establish the brand „Logistik Made in Austria“ as a partner project of the transport ministry and Austria’s logistics industry, and to appoint a logistics representative in the transport ministry as a personnel one stop shop and coordinator of the industry’s interests.

„Moreover personell liability for tax debts of customers shall be dropped for Austria’s customs forwarders and their employees. This is the sole reason for the loss of approximately EUR 300 million in production value in Austria“, Wolfram Sengre-Weiss said alarmingly. What is also urgently required is less bureaucracy and decriminalisation of dangerous goods transports.

Another measure will be the expansion of multimodality. In this segment, the Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik proposes to support the carriers and offers also promotions for forwarders, as this industry segment is playing a big role in shifting transport from road to rail.
