Working talks about the Baltic-Adriatic corridor in Vienna

Doris Bures, minister for infrastructure, confirms significance of rail expansion in the Baltic-Adriatic corridor to TEN coordinator Kurt Bodewig

Doris Bures, minister for infrastructure, met Kurt Bodewig, EU coordinator for the core network corridor of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor on 15 July. In the course of their working talks in Vienna she emphasised „that the expansion of our southern route, forming the core of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor, plays not only a major role for Carinthia and Styria, but is also a project of added value for Europe“.

Kurt Bodewig, since March coordinator of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor, which had been newly added to the EU core network, empahsised the particular significance of the corridor for Europe. „We can reach an outstanding added value for the regions along the Baltic-Adriatic corridor. Expansion of the infrastructure in this corridor will give the growth impetus Europe needs urgently“, Bodewig underlined.

„The transborder expansion of the environementally friendly railway is a prerequisite to achieve our ambitious European targets for climate and environemental protection, and to secure a highly efficient transport system for the population and the industry“, Doris Bures points out.

The Baltic-Adriatic corridor together with the new TEN transport guidelines has become part of the EU core network, consisting of nine core networks across the EU. The corridor connects five states and 14 regions, from the Baltic Sea to the industrial regions in northern Italy and the ports of the northern Adriatic Sea.
