Austria: F. Schwammerhöfer becomes logistics coordinator of bmvit

Austria’s industry welcomes contact point for the transport and logistics sector within the Transport Ministry in Vienna

Alois Stöger, Austria’s Transport Minister, has implemented the previously announced creation of the position of a logistics coordinator in his ressort. Franz Schwammerhöfer, Head of the Department in the Austrian Transport Ministry (bmvit), will be a central contact person for the entire transport-related industry – ranging from forwarders and transport companies to shippers and waste management.

Franz Schwammenhöfer, who has just been appointed logistics coordinator in the bmvit, will have to face many challenges. „The industry sees the new logistics coordinator as a central and neutral contact point for all logistic issues. Thus he will be in charge of a fair exchange and compromise among the interests, which requires a neutral position on all transport modes. Moreover, it must be of utmost priority to him to strengthen Austria as a logistics location“, Anna Maria Hochhauser, general secretary of the Austrian Economic Chamber emphasises in her statement.

Mag. Wolfram Senger-Weiss, President of the Zentralverband Spedition & Logistik, commented the appointment of the logistics coordinator as follows: „This allows concentrating responsibilities in the logistics segment.“ As a first step it was important to establish „Logistics Made in Austria“ as a brand and make international advertising for this location.
