15 years of state river port in Ybbs/Danube

Danube port in Ybbs (Lower Austria) in an emotional roller coaster since its establishment in 1995

Low-water periods of the Danube spoil the business of the operator of the public river port in the Lower Austrian municipality Ybbs/Danube. “We were able to handle and dispatch more goods if this flaw was eradicated“, KR Director Johann Weichinger, Managing Director of the Schaufler GmbH, explains in the interview with the Österreichische Verkehrszeitung (Austrian Transport Magazine).

To support the core business in the recycling and waste management segments logistically, Schaufler GmbH has opened an own Danube port in Ybbs in 1995. Three years later the container terminal started operating. In 2009 the Ybbs Danube port handled more than 400,000 tons of goods. The container volume handled on behalf of the key customer Stora Enso Timber amounted to 48,000 tons or around 2,500 TEU.
