75 years of Fischmarkt-Hamburg-Altona GmbH (FMH)

FMH (Hamburg) offers parallel fish and port services

The HHLA affiliate Fischmarkt Hamburg Altona GmbH celebrates its 75-years jubilee these days. In the company’s market halls and cool warehouses around 36,000 tons of freh fish and sea food are sold. In addition to specialists in fish trade also shipping companies, publishers, advertising agencies and a varied gastronomy settled at the real estates of FMH. Together the 130 tenants employ around 2,000 persons.

The company was established under the name "Vereinigte Fischmärkte Altona und Hamburg GmbH“ in 1934. Four years later it was renamed to “Fischmarkt Hamburg-Altona GmbH“. First, FMH was a municipial government operated enterprise. Since it has been taken over by Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) in 1989, market economy is in the foreground.
