AMERICAN AIRLINES CARGO ANNOUNCES CARMEN TAYLOR AS THE 2011 RECIPIENT OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY AWARD

American Airlines today announced that Carmen Taylor, Managing Director of Cargo Sales – Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America (MCLA) has been honored as a recipient of the International Women’s Day Award by World Trade Center Miami. The annual award recognizes women who demonstrate exceptional leadership in promoting and enhancing free trade and international business in the Americas.

Taylor was recognized at the International Women’s Day event luncheon hosted by the World Trade Center Miami for modeling excellence-reflecting the influential role women play in furthering Florida’s strategic position as the “Trade Logistics Capital of the Americas.”

“I’m very humbled and grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for international trade through my work with the logistics community,” said Taylor, a 34-year veteran of American Airlines. “My philosophy is simple: Do everything you can to make the customer successful, and they will also make you successful. This is the principle my colleagues and I live by each day at American Airlines Cargo.”

2011 award recipients also included: Doreen Hemlock, Reporter, Sun Sentinel; Hon. Carmenza Jaramillo, Director, PROEXPORT, USA; Amb. Louise L. Leger, Consul General, Consulate General of Canada/Miami; and Liane Ventura Guerra, Senior Vice President, Leadership Programs, International Business Development, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Taylor joined the Cargo Division of American Airlines in 2004 as a Regional Sales Manager responsible for the southeastern United States before assuming her current position in 2005.  In her current role, she oversees American’s Cargo Sales team in South America, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America and the Southeast region of the United States, covering a total of 54 cities in 33 countries.

International Women’s Day was established more than a century ago to direct attention to the right of women to be fully engaged in the political and economic processes that shape their lives. The United Nations (UN) began sponsoring the annual commemoration in 1975 to highlight women’s issues globally, and focus on women’s achievements. In 2004, the World Trade Center Miami began supporting the event to recognize women who have inspired others to make major achievements in international business. More than 400 international executives and media attend the event each year.
