APL Logistics and Sumitomo Warehouse to cooperate in Europe

Enhanced cooperation of APL Logistics and Sumitomo Warehouse saves considerable amount of time and costs

The European subsidiary of the Japanese logistics service provider Sumitomo Warehouse and APL Logistics Germany agreed to cooperate now in the German and European market. The alliance joins the supply chain management strengths of both specialists. Thus customers gain access to enhanced capacities and a wider range of services. The implementation of a joint customer project marked the start of this strategic partnership between Sumitomo Warehouse Europe GmbH, Düsseldorf, and APL Logistics Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Hamburg. In early 2012 APL Logistics took over interim storage and the subsequent fine distribution of the products to the beneficiaries in 13 European countries for a company that produces fiber composites for industrial use and delivers from Asia to a finishing operation in Hamburg. So far, after processing in Hamburg the fiber composites of the Sumitomo customer were returned to the Sumitomo Warehouse in Antwerp. The new solution leads to a drastic reduction of costs and saves time enormously. Together, the partners are working on further expansion of their cooperation. Sumitomo offers also other customers to redesign their supply chains with the inclusion of APL Logistics in Hamburg.

Miriam Kröger, Head of Business Development at APL Logistics Germany, sees big opportunities in the strategic partnership with Sumitomo Warehouse: "Today also medium-sized industrial and trading companies need especially flexible and efficient supply chains. The alliance with Sumitomo Warehouse strengthens us once more in our claim as the preferred logistics partner. Customers of both companies will benefit of the expanded design options in their supply chains. "

In 2010 the alliance was formed by the parent companies APL Logistics based in Singapore and Sumitomo Warehouse Co., Osaka. It provides that Sumitomo Warehouse and APL Logistics are jointly marketing their global supply chain services. Sumitomo Warehouse is providing its warehousing and logistics capacities in Japan to customers of APL Logistics. APL Logistics in turn offers Sumitomo’s customers’ access to its global services in the following segments: purchase order management, supplier consolidation, value-added services, forwarding services, customs clearance and distribution.
