ASFINAG increases toll for trucks in Austria

New GO-rates for truck operators on motorways and expressways in Austria as of 1 January 2013
 
Operators of trucks and vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of over 3.5 tons using motorways and expressways in Austria will have to dig deeper into their pockets from 1 January 2013. In addition toll charge rises on the 75-kilometres segment of the A12 motorway between the national border at Kufstein and Innsbruck-Amras (A13) junction. This was announced by the motorway financing company ASFINAG on 30 November.
 
As adjustment to the inflation, toll for trucks will be increased by three per cent in Austria, effective from 1 January 2013. The amount payable depends on the number of axles and the Euro emission classification of the vehicle, as well as on the distance covered in kilometres. However the assignment of the Euro emission classes to the four tariff groups (A, B, C, D) is to remain unchanged for the calendar year 2013.
 
Starting from January 2012, a statutory toll in addition to the basic kilometre tariff will be charged on the 75-kilometres segment of the A 12 motorway between the national border at Kufstein and the Innsbruck-Amras (A 13) junction, which will be adjusted sep-by-step from 10 to 25 per cent in the period from 2012 to 2015. This additional toll will be increased from 10 to 15 per cent in the calendar year 2013. The revenue from this additional charge will be specifically used and is paid by ASFINAG to the federal government for the financing of the Austrian segment of the Brenner base tunnel. In the first nine months of 2012 a total of EUR 4.9 million was earned on the A 12 motorway for the cross-financing.
 
For the calendar year 2012 they expect toll revenues of about EUR 1.1 billion (2011: EUR 1.06 billion). From January to September 2012 ASFINAG earned about EUR 845 million from the toll for heavy goods transport, which means a year-on-year plus of four per cent.
