Augustin Network pushes intermodal solutions

Augustin Network tackles growing number of long distance-routes in central and eastern Europe with intermodal transport concepts:

Augustin Network is pushing intermodal solutions for transport management. In particular the Salzburg-based enterprise designs and develops specific customer solutions for long distance-routes in central and eastern Europe, with the railway playing a major role in it. Several private railway companies are acting as partners for traction. Based on previous experience the intermodal services are being expanded to Byelroussia, Ukraine and Russia.

In the past months Augustin Network has combined trucks and railway, thus creating a new transport corridor across Europe for 45 feet High Cube Containers. Transportations from Hamburg via Sopron to Istanbul or Thessaloniki are effected on the rail, and further forwarded by truck.

According to the company this intermodal transport management increases security in planning and reduces also emissions. The transport management solution is used by several major shippers in Germany and in Austria. On behalf of them the company transports cosmetics, detergents or tyres to Romania, Greece and Turkey and return.

„With the given increasing traffic congestion in eastern Europe as well, intermodal is gaining importance. We are already joining relevant advantages of the different transport modes into ideal solutions for our customers“, explains Christian Fürstaller, Chief Executive Officer of Augustin Quehenberger Group. According to his statements intermodal solutions are increasing the organisational efforts, but they offer clients a security level in planning that had not yet been reached in the east. The independency from trucks on the main corridors avoids the “bottleneck road”.
