Austrian cancels route to Mumbai

Mumbai (south-western India) fell victim to Austrian Airlines network-adaptation

Austrian Airlines announced the cessation of the route from Vienna to Mumbai and back. As per March 1, 2009, the flight connection towards the south-west Indian business metropolis is to be ceased. The Management explained this step by large over-capacities between the European airports and Mumbai. Combined with the declining economy in India and the impacts of the financial crisis in European markets, these over-capacities withdraw the basis for a profitable operation of the route, according to a written announcement.

Austrian’s cessation of the Mumbai-route is part of a program to adapt the network. In the course of this program the routes from Vienna to London City, Luxemburg, Riga and Chicago have been closed this year as well.
