„Bad novelty“ for Maersk Line

Maersk Line registered decline in container traffic from Asia to Europe

„Bad news“ for the Maersk Line concerning container-transport from Asia to Europe. In the third quarter of the year 2008 transport volumes declined by 3 percent compared to the same period last year. In the second quarter the volume showed a 2 percent loss. The Management referred to this development as a “novelty”. Since the beginning of the container shipping business 40 years ago, the volumes shipped on the routes from Asia to Europe have never been declining, as announced in a written report. However, the Management of the Maersk Line reckons with a continuation of this trend throughout the fourth quarter of 2008.
