Basra will be 110th destination in Emirates route network

South Iraq port of Basra will be directly linked to the hub of Emirates Airline in Dubai from February 2011

The opening of a new route within the Emirates Airline network casts its shadows. From 2 February 2011 the international airline of the United Arab Emirates will approach Basra four times per week. The South Iraq port will be destination N° 110 in the worldwide network.

Emirates Airline will serve Basra on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, subject to approval by the authorities. The route will be operated with Airbus A330 aircrafts. Each flight offers a capacity for 10 to 12 tons of air freight.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline & Group, attaches great importance to the new route. „Basra is an important market for Emirates. Thanks to the latest growth of the city a great number of multinational enterprises and industries invested into the infrastructure. We see a strong potential for this route from several of our markets. Since the oil production licensing in the year 2009 traffic from the US and Europe to Basra has been rising considerably. There is a bigger demand for flight connections and we are able to cover it with our offering“, he states about the current situation.
