Bayernhafen and Interporto Bologna agree upon cooperation

Partnership to promote intermodal traffic on North-South axis

Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG and Interporto Bologna SpA signed a cooperation agreement in Bologna. The aim of the closer cooperation is to enhance intermodal traffic between Italy and southern Germany. Interporto Bologna covers a total area of 4 million sq.m. , which is the reason why it counts among the most important junctions for international freight shipments. About 35 per cent of all goods in Italy and 16 per cent of continental cargo transports pass this junction.

In a planning stage until mid-March 2010 both partners will investigate the future potential of new relations by means of market and cargo flow analyses“, Joachim Zimmermann, Managing Director of Bayernhafen Group, explains further steps. A first regular connection between Bayernhafen Nürnberg and Bologna was launched in April 2009. The Italian operator Italcontainer connects the two economic centres with a direct service on the Alp-crossing route within 15 hours.
