Bertschi pushes logistics solutions for major customers

Following a difficult fourth quarter 2011 Bertschi AG is to establish a branch in China:

Bertschi AG feels well armed for upcoming challenges. At the traditional works meeting in Dürrenäsch on 14 January, managing director Hans-Jörg Bertschi presented the company’s strategy and targets 2012 to the employees.

Safety and quality of the services will continue to enjoy first priority. Seen from the strategic point of view, the development of innovative logistics solutions for major customers and development of employees is in the foreground. Bertschi wants to focus on sustainable logistics solutions in future. In China (Shanghai) the establishment of a subsidiary is being prepared. At the same time global tank container business is planned to be established step-by-step over the coming years. The establishment of an own overseas container fleet is in the initial stage.

In 2011 the currency crisis of the Euro and the strong Swiss franc left its traces with Bertschi as well. Following a good first half of the year demand for transport services was regressive from summer. In the fourth quarter losses compared to the previous year amounted to more than 10 per cent. Bertschi generates more than 90 per cent of its turnover in the Euro zone. Hans-Jörg Bertschi: „Our customers are operating in early-cycle industry sectors. The considerable decline in demand reflects the upcoming recession in many European countries.“

Anchored in the international bulk logistics business, the Bertschi group based in Dürrenäsch, Switzerland, has currently about 2,000 employees and operates 44 locations in 26 countries in Europe, Russia and Turkey. Due to currency effects turnover 2011 declined slightly to CHF 630 million.
