Enhanced Rotterdam program with Kombiverkehr

Kombiverkehr: Sea port hinterland traffic via the gateway Duisburg to be better connected to Rotterdam

With additional trains, which are operating with immediate effect between the Ruhr area and Europe’s biggest port Rotterdam, Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr in cooperation with Optimodal Netherland B.V. increase the capacity for railway hinterland transport. “Thus we allow for further shift of road traffic to the environmentally friendlier railway, and we were also able to implement a great number of service and performance improvements", managing director Robert Breuhahn explains.

Subsequently to these innovations the Kombiterminal Dortmund is connected to Maasvlakte in Rotterdam with its own train for the first time. All Westhafenverkehren ex Rotterdam will have a bigger time window for changes, thanks to the new system and to the earlier arriving containers in the Rhur area. Even in cases of possible delays, national and international connection trains can be reached easier, they say in a press release.

In total Kombiverkehr is offering 40 train departures per week between Rotterdam and Duisburg and Dortmund, respectively: ten departures per week between Rotterdam RSC, and Deltaterminal at the Maasvlakte and Duisburg; eight weekly departures between Deltaterminal and Dortmund as well as six trains per week between the Euromax terminal and Dortmund and Duisburg, respectively.
