BLG AutoRail is working on a regular transport service to/from Turkey

BLG AutoRail “goes Orient“: First rail transportations for Skoda from Mlada Boleslav to Derince ran smoothly

For the first time in the history of automobile transport on the rail, two block trains carrying a total of 408 vehicles were transported to the Asian part of Turkey. BLG AutoRail has already developed rail concepts for the transport to and from Turkey for several automobile manufacturers in the past. When the way to the port of Koper had been barely accessible due to heavy snowfalls, Skoda had made a concrete request to drive two trains to the Asian part of Turkey on the short term.

On February 7 the first train left the Czech Skoda works in Mlada Boleslav, followed by the second train on February 10. From the Slovak/Hungarian border to the Turkish port of Tekirdag the trains were guarded by special securities. The about 2.300 kilometres route to Terkirdag was covered in four days. Afer arrival the wagons were maneuvred onto a railway ferry, and disembarked after a 6-hours journey in the port of Derince, in the Asian part of Turkey. In total the two trains took less than five days to arrive in the Asian part of Turkey. The vehicles arrived in Derince without any cases of theft, vandalism or transport damage.

Gerald Binz, managing associate of BLG AutoRail, explained: “Our customer was very satisfied with the transit time and quality of the rail transport, so we take this as a motivation and try to establish regular train services from/to Turkey.“

BLG AutoRail GmbH headquartered in Mainz is a specialist provider of rail-based European vehicle transport. With about 1,200 special double stack-wagons the company counts among the leading providers in this market segment in Europe.
