BLG Logistics Group concludes new agreement with Suzuki

Suzuki International Europe extends well-harmonised cooperation with BLG Logistics Group (Bremen) for four more years

Suzuki International Europe charges BLG with a new contract for four more years to provide several logistics and transport services at the locations in Bremerhaven and Kelheim. Masato Atsumi, President Suzuki Europe, and his top management team came to Bremen for the signing ceremony. Wirtschaftssenator Martin Günthner welcomed the guests at the city hall. The BLG Logistics Group was represented by CEO Frank Dreeke and Automotive CEO Michael Blach as well as several managing directors from the automotive logistics unit.

Suzuki International Europe is the European centre for cars, motorcycles and marine products. Suzuki vehicles have been imported to Europe via Bremerhaven since 1980. In the port BLG is in charge of unloading the big car carriers and for technical processing. This includes pre-delivery-inspection and customer-individual preparation of the vehicles, in advance of delivery to the retailers.

Suzuki vehicles from Hungarian production are carried on the Danube with the BLG car carrier vessels “Kelheim“ and “Heilbronn“ to the car terminal in Kelheim. After unloading the vehicles are technically processed also there, and delivered to retailers by truck.

Total volume of the eight different Suzuki models handled at the BLG terminals in Bremerhaven and Kelheim is 31,000 vehicles per year. About one third is handled via Bremerhaven. Suzuki counts among the oldest import clients of BLG in Bremerhaven. In the mid-90ies the car terminal in Kelheim was built due to the growing volumes of the Hungarian Suzuki production plant. Since 1997 the vehicles are carried environementally friendly on inland vessels on the Danube.
