BLG Logistics Group puts three “working horses” into service

Transport vehicles for offshore components of the manufacturer Scheuerle are being tested at the automotive terminal Bremerhaven:

The BLG Logistics Group has purchased three special vehicles for transportation of heavy offshore components. These units are so called SPMTs (Self Propelled Modular Transporters) of the Scheuerle company from Pfedelbach near Heilbronn. On September 26 the manufacturer handed over the vehicles at the automotive terminal Bremerhaven to BLG.

The SPMTs from Scheuerle can securely and reliably carry weights of 16,000 tons (e.g. modules for power plants of offshore platforms) to their place of operation. The control technology allows exact positioning of heavy weight pieces. The single module transporters can be connected mechanically or via data cable. The BLG transporters can be controlled via cable and radio remote control. BLG’s SPMT drivers were trained by Scheuerle. Now the use of the vehicles is being tested at the automotive terminal Bremerhaven.

The BLG Logistics Group is investing EUR 20 million into logistics for offshore wind power plants, including EUR 2.5 million for the SPMTs. In addition the ABC-peninsula at the automotive terminal is prepared for new tasks, bearing bocks and fixing systems for sea transport are procured, and a special pontoon is to be built. The pontoon is acquired and operated by BLG and the Bremerhaven-based enterprises RVV Rönner and IMS Nord. The pontoon is built at the BVT-shipyard in Bremen and Bremerhaven.
