Block in Altenwörth due to flood damages

The floods of the last days entails obstructions of the waterway transport on the Danube. In the period from 14 June 2013 to 28 June 2013 a total block applies for the lock in Altenwörth, at river kilometre 1980,5. The reason therefore are repair works, as reads an information of the via donau service DoRis.
 
The lock in Altenwörth has to be blocked due to massive flood damages in the segment of the lower port. The basement of both sides of the upper port (both walls) was undermined several meters deep. The pit in the guide wall reaches the opposite weir field, settlement cracks were discovered at the other wall. The strength of the building is still endangered, more comprehensive safety measures than expected will be required, the water management company informs skippers.
 
Partial operation shall be possible by the end of this month. From June 29, 2013 one of the lock chambers of Altenwörth shall be ready to operate again. The lock authority will specify the which of the lock chambers will be available first according to the progress of the safety and repair works in the ports.
