bremenports: 1.3 million tonnes transit with Austria in 2012

Austria remains one of the key markets in central European hinterland for the ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven

The longstanding cooperation of the port community in Bremen and Bremerhaven with Austrian exporters and importers and their respective forwarders is continued on a high level. In the year 2012 around 1.3 million tonnes of cargo transhipped or destined for Austria passed the quay facilities in the two north German port. “This means an increase of five per cent compared with the previous year“, Erwin Mittermaier, Austrian representative of bremenports GmbH & Co. KG, said at the ‘logistics talk Linz‘ on 9 April.

The Austrian sea freight market via Bremen/Bremenhaven was predominated by exportations – as in previous years. Export shipments accounted for about 90 per cent of the total volume. Container shipments from Austria accounted for about 125,000 TEUs, reaching the last year’s level. More than 30 weekly block trains are operated between Austria’s container terminals and the Bremen seaports.
