Cargo Rail Europe demands Italy solution from Xrail

CRE demands rail alliance Xrail to close gaps of the system for wagon load transport in Italy

It is with a mixture of consent and scepticism that Cargo Rail Europe (CRE), a European association of shippers, comments on the foundation of a production alliance of seven European rail enterprises in the wagon load sector. They welcomed this initiative and hoped „that the Xrail alliance is able to make international wagon load transport on the rail more efficient and customer oriented – as it was announced“. However, they are still sceptic regarding the implementation of the project, the association writes in a press release.

It is particularly the situation in Italy that worries rail customers. Some weeks ago the cargo railway Trenitalia announced that they will transport no more dangerous goods consignments of the chemical industry from March 2010, because Trenitalia can grant no real time consignment tracking for the wagons. “Only if the new Xrail alliance continues to take over such classic rail transports in the future, and improves the services of individual alliances, which had been bad in the past, the new production community has a chance to bring more goods on the rail. The alliance has to close these gaps of European wagon load transport in Italy rapidly“, Cargo Rail Europe demands.
