Cautious optimism with TNT Group

Express and mail specialist TNT Group does its “chores” also in 2010

Since the third quarter 2009 TNT Group has been registering a rising demand for their products and services again. Nonetheless the management is cautious and takes further steps to reduces costs in 2010. It was not yet possible to judge if the lately registered recovery of the world economy was going to continue. There were still uncertainties, CEO Peter Bakker explains the steps.

TNT Group’s hot off the press balance for 2009 shows sales revenues of EUR 10.4 billion. This is a decline of 6.7 per cent compared to the previous year, which is completely due to the Express division (down 10.5 per cent to EUR 5.95 billion). The Mail division shows a turnover of EUR 4.26 billion (up 0.5 per cent) in the annual report. The operating result was clearly positive with EUR 648 million. TNT, based in the Netherlands, has about 160,000 employees around the globe. The main pillars of the company that is active in the Mail and Express Delivery Service segments are tight networks in Europe and Asia. They serve more than 200 countries worldwide.
