CBP tightens rules for sea cargo import to the U.S
ISF – Importer Security Filing 10+2 to become effective with 26 January 2010 The customs agency US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tightens the regulations for sea cargo importations to the United States of America. New safety regulations will shortly become effective under the name ISF – Importer Security Filing 10+2. Compliance with these will be obligatory as of 26 January 2010. Offences will be fined with penalties of up to USD 5,000 per case. "I can only advise exporters who ship their consignments in compliance with the DDP delivery condition to the U.S., to prepare already for ISF. An extensive test phase can help avoiding later inconveniences“, said Stefan Eberl, Trade Lane Manager USA in the branch office Vienna of Schenker & CO AG, at a workshop of the forwarding company in Vienna. The ISF program is intended to avoid the import of arms for terrorists on the sea way. For this purpose the “Importer of Record“ will have to transmit additional manifest data (as e.g. name and address of the producer, point of loading of the container, customs number of the recipient etc.) to the U.S. customs agency 24 hours before the ship is loaded.
