CCG makes another attempt to start up a GVZ project in Zagreb

Project to construct cargo terminals with rail infrastructure in Zagreb still an issue for Cargo Center Graz

Cargo Center Graz (CCG) is making another attempt to establish a cargo distribution centre with rail infrastructure in Croatia’s capital Zagreb. In his speech at the celebration of the 10 years jubilee of the CCG Managing Director KommR Franz Glanz announced a new attempt to implement this project. Together with strong partners (Port of Rijeka; Croatian cargo railway) they wan to set up a strong hub for multimodal transport solutions and cargo transport in the region Southeast Europe, said the head of the CCG. This implied the hint that tight cooperation in operation of regular block trains between the two locations is planned, as there are scarce opportunities in Graz for future intermodal transport to Southeast Europe.

In the ten years since the Cargo Center Graz was opened, they invested more than EUR 200 million via the CCG Immobilien GmbH and from 2012 also via CCG Nord Projektentwicklung in the segments cargo terminal and rail infrastructure, rental of halls in the CCG and location development. The main part of this amount flew as added value to the region. The number of customers of the CCG rose from initially eight companies to 20 companies with more than 1,000 employees. These include reputable transport and logistics providers, such as Dachser Austria, DB Schenker, DHL Freight, Duvenbeck Logistics, Gebrüder Weiss, Hödlmayr Logistics, JCL Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel, Packing Center Graz, Panalpina and Wenzel Logistics. Internationally operating companies from trade and industry have followed this model.

Currently developed area in the CCG covers 700,000 m². They secured new areas north of the terminal via the CCG Nord Projektentwicklung, a cooperation of CCG and Strauss & Partner established in 2012. Expansion by about 150,000 m² for the coming ten years is in the pipeline. The Styrian railway company Steiermärkische Landesbahnen took over operation of the railway facilities, terminal and responsibility of related railway infrastructure in 2010 by means of an agreement valid to 2034. SCHIG as public partner in the PPP project has recently transferred the interest in GWP Güterterminal Projektgesellschaft to ÖBB Bau und Infrastruktur. The GWP bundles premises and infrastructure of the CCG.
