GLS Austria to establish new depot in Steinabrückl

EUR 3.6 million investment: GLS Austria started building a new depot in Steinabrückl close to Wiener Neustadt on July 5

The parcel service company GLS Austria is tackling a new building project. Construction of a new depot in Steinabrückl in the federal district of Wiener Neustadt-Land started with the symbolic first turn of the sod on July 5. The parcel service provider is investing about EUR 3.6 million into the transhipment centre meeting the requirements of industrialised and sustainable parcel logistics. Operation shall start by January 2014.

The new building will include transhipment and office area of 1,600 m² and an outside area of 4,400 m², and will offer more sorting and shunting capacity. It will replace the currently operated facility in Steinabrückl. From a total of 53 gates that are planned, seven will be reserved for far-distance traffic, 46 of them for delivery vehicles.

“Parcel volume in Steinabrückl has been rising in the past years. Every day we handle about 10,000 parcels here, and this positive trend continues“, says Klaus Schädle, Managing Director Europe South, GLS. “We aim at providing our customers in this region with usual GLS quality also in the future. Therefore we are also investing in economically dificult periods. The new depot is designed to accommodate further growth.“

GLS Austria is a subsidiary of GLS, General Logistics Systems B.V. (headquarters in Amsterdam). By their own account GLS implements reliable, high-quality parcel services for 212,000 customers in Europe, and offers also express and logistics services.
