Gebrüder Weiss constructs new terminal in Prague in 2011

Persistent growth and continuous expansion of the GW-network in Central and Eastern Europe

The Gebrüder Weiss group, with headquarters in Lauterach (Vorarlberg, Austria), was able to increase its net sales from the previous figure of EUR 830 million to around EUR 978 million. CEO Wolfgang Niessner sees the general economic recovery following the crisis, and the group’s rebounding order levels starting with March 2010, as the reasons for this positive development. However, Niessner considers this also as the result of their corporate strategies, meaning the strengthening of the CEEC land transport organisation and global expansion in the Air & Sea area.

The consolidated Air & Sea turnover in 2010 was EUR 216.8 million, corresponding to a 57.5 per cent increase in turnover. The global shipments handled by Gebrüder Weiss rose by 17 per cent compared to the previous year. Consolidated turnover in the land transport area grew by 11.8 per cent to EUR 643.8 million. Following the opening of the logistics terminal in Senec (Slovakia), and the new terminal in Sibiu (Romania) last year, a further expansion of the network in Central and Eastern Europe is planned. This includes the construction of a large terminal in Prague.

In the frame of a long-term investment policy the group has increased its majority interest in the former Eurocargo in Serbia in 2010, a freight forwarder that now operates under the name Gebrüder Weiss, as Finance Director Wolfram Senger-Weiss states. Moreover, Austria’s first climate-neutral logistics building in Wörgl (Tyrol) was recently inaugurated.
