CDN opens new container depot at bayernhafen Nuremberg

New container depot with railway siding strengthens position of bayernhafen Nuremberg in intermodal traffic

Container Depot Nürnberg GmbH (CDN), a company of the IGS Logistics Group Hamburg, has started operating a new container depot at bayernhafen Nuremberg. At 56,000 m² in total the facility offers a maximum capacity for 7,500 TEU. It was built with an investment of EUR 6 million. "We want to consolidate our market position in Southern Germany with this investment", announces IGS Managing Director Olaf Schreiner. CDN specialises in container handling services. The enterprise is holding 25 per cent of the shares of Tricon Container-Terminal Nürnberg GmbH, which operates the tri-modal combined transport facility at bayernhafen Nuremberg. The new container depot has its own railway siding, which allows a direct exchange of empty containers between depot and railway. Moreover the facility is equipped with four reefer connections, a garage with container wash, its own fuel station and a new office building.

The area for the construction of the new container depot was provided by the bayernhafen group as a provider of infrastructure. "We are glad about the follow-up investments at the terminal for combined transport that was opened four years ago. This strengthens the intermodal activities of the bayernhafen group on the long term", Harald Leupold, Managing Director of Hafen Nürnberg-Roth GmbH, says in a statement.
