Collapse in freight volumes at IATA-airlines

IATA announces dramatic slump in international freight volume

The international freight volumes handled by the air companies is descending: The current traffic figures of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for December and the year 2008 show a collapse in global freight traffic. In December 2008 the international cargo volume dropped 22.6 per cent compared to the previous year. In 2008 IATA registered a 4%-decline in international freight volume.

“The 22.6%-drop in the global cargo segment was unpredictable and is quite shocking. The collapse in global forwarded volume can’t be described in other terms.” Giovanni Bisignani, IATA Director General and CEO, commented on the current trend.
