Grand Alliance ceases EU5-service

 
Grand Alliance reduces capacity in Europe-Far East traffic

Responding to the global economic trend and the reduced demand for capacities as one consequence, the shipping lines participating to the Grand Alliance stops operating the EU5-service with immediate effect. For the time being the measure is limited until June 2009, the reduced the capacity by around 12 percent. The ports served by EU5-service so far are now covered by EU3 and EU4 strings during the next months.

The member shipping companies of the Grand Alliance (Hapag-Lloyd, MISC Berhad, NYK, OOCL) operated the EU5-service with 8 vessels offering around 3,300 TEU each. The port rotation of the service was: Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Singapore, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Southampton, Singapore and Shanghai. The rotation took 56 days.
